Inxeba (The Wound) is a movie that resisted an ongoing campaign to be banned and won 6 awards at the South African Film and Television Awards including the most important one: the Best Film.
Apparently, some traditional leaders were against a movie depicting gay love. In fact, there is still a request to classify the movie as “adult” and give it an X18 rating. The producers have been fighting this classification, but in the meantime, they can enjoy their 6 awards.
Steven Budlender, who’s representing the producers, said that it is unheard that a film is given an x-rating without hearing from the producers.
In addition, he maintains that if 3 of the last 6 sex scenes would have been deleted from the movie the story would make no sense.
